Edvard Grieg Holberg Suite
JS Bach Concerto in F-major for Oboe
Piotr Tchaikovsky String Serenade (Excerpts)
JS Bach Concerto in A-major for Piano
The Berlin Concert is a tribute to German Composer Johann Sebastian Bach, who is hailed by many as the greatest composer of all times. For the first concerto by Bach our instrument is not the piano, the violin nor even the flute which are all well-established instruments in the public's heart. The oboe however, this mellow instrument which evokes pastoral atmospheres, is an instrument for which Johann Sebastian Bach composed some of the most beautiful melodic lines. The star of the show is João Miguel Silva, who is among the world’s upcoming oboists. His gentle demeanor takes nothing away from the dynamism of this poetic instrument.
Also on the program is Tchaikovsky’s String Serenade adds the perfect balance to the program. Juxtaposing the counterpoint of Bach with Slavic themes.
Pianist Sonia Achkar will give the finale of the evening with Bach’s A-major Piano Concerto. Johann Sebastian Bach was a master of counterpoint not only in the literal sense, but in a stylistic one as well. He regularly drew on traits and techniques from composers outside the Northern European tradition, synthesizing impulses he found in French and Italian composers. Sonia Achkar brings "The highest level of piano artistry - playful elegance and brilliance” to a much anticipated performance.
