Aspiration

  • Tchaikovsky String Serenade

  • 2 Arias - Lauren Eberwein (voice)

  • Chopin Piano Concerto No.1

To aspire is something fundamental to us human beings. The highlight of this program is the Chopin Concerto which delicately challenges the limits of expression. It is charged with deep emotion, romantic themes from Poland and mesmerising technique of the pianist. Michèle Gurdal, our Pianist of choice is a hidden treasure in the world of piano. Appreciated by connoisseurs but someone who keeps a reservedly low profile. We were able to convince her to come to India especially to bring her beloved Chopin to you. The program is introduced in the first half by the Grieg Holberg Suite whose magic and Scandinavian charm has made it instantly the crowd favourite in hyderabad. The Holberg Suite is a piece you will immediately search for online after the concert. This program is not complete without a new addition to concert programs at SOTA. We are introducing not just the voice but a young singer who’s making her mark as one of the worlds leading Sopranos. Lauren Pearl Eberwein possesses not only a rich and glowing voice but also a personality that is energising and captivating both on stage and off stage. She will bring to you in this concert a selection of Arias from Mozart and another composer that we are keeping secret to surprise you at the concert. Her voice and the music will combine to give you an experience that not only transports you to another country and another time in history but also, to a whole new dimension of artistic experience

liberation

  • Grieg The Holberg Suite

  • 2 Arias - Lauren Eberwein (voice)

  • Beethoven Piano Concerto No.3

This concert is undoubtedly about Beethoven. About his desire for liberation of the human spirit. Beethoven did not just write music, he wrote compelling stories who’s grammar looked very different. In the C-minor concerto he is building a dense but revealing tapestry of moods and rhythms. All you need to do is connect with the first seven notes of this piece. And you will be hooked! A little known fact is that this year marks the 250th birth anniversary of Beethoven. His music still remains fresh and inviting, it just might be the first piece you will want to play in your car, or at your desk, for months to come. Alessandro Deljavan is not a safe performer. He is willing to risk it all to communicate the truth in the music. His charisma and love for performing will leave you exuberant. Don’t forget that Tchaikovsky is on this program! He begins the story telling on January 5th. The String Serenade is a very unusual piece that in an unusual setting (string orchestra) turns into a master piece. It is filled with the indoors “warmth” of a bitter cold Russian day. Like Russian fairy tales in the comfort of your home, he throws his melodies up in the air and makes them come down like glitter. Safely preserved for you in the middle of this program is the voice of Lauren Pearl Eberwein who with an entirely new set of songs will take you from Tchaikovsky to Beethoven. Like talking to a dear friend, singing for many of us is a liberating experience. Together, the voice with the richness of classic music backed by an orchestra is an experience you will never forget.

Perception

  • Schumann Piano Quintet in E-flat Major, Op.44

  • Mendelssohn Octet for Strings in E-Flat Major, Op. 20

The Mendelssohn Octet has surprised us by becoming a unanimous hit among the city’s audiences and is back on popular demand. In the octet, Felix Mendelssohn puts down melodies and rhythms that mix the rational world with fairy tale like story telling.

Schumann’s Piano Quintet was in 1842 but it is still hugely popular and surprisingly relevant to our times. It was written during a period of Schumann’s life when chamber music was the highlight. It is highly virtuosic - demanding immense technical prowess of the musician. The pianist of choice here, Alessandro Deljavan, delivers punch and subtlety at the same time. There is a rhythmic momentum in the Quintet that will leave you spellbound!

Rationality

  • Beethoven String Quartet Op.59 No.3 "Razumovsky"

  • Mendelssohn Octet for Strings in E-Flat Major, Op. 20

This Opening Concert consists of two unassumingly powerful compositions by Beethoven and Mendelssohn. The Mendelssohn Octet has surprised us by becoming a unanimous hit among the city’s audiences and is back on popular demand. In the octet, Felix Mendelssohn puts down melodies and rhythms that mix the rational world with fairy tale-like storytelling.

The Beethoven however, is a rare treasure. It’s impossible for us to conceive how so much of music and creative ideas can come out of four string instruments. This Beethoven string quartet has been rigorously rehearsed in NewYork particularly for performance in Hyderabad. This concert is bound to leave a special and memorable mark in every listener.
